Sometimes people hug trees. Other times trees hug people. As a worldview, I embrace all the teachings of the Sacred Tree. It represents the life cycles of all things and earth wisdom as first recognized by primal peoples throughout the globe. Like the roots of that tree, my life is grounded in the great outdoors, more precisely, at the rivers edge. Branching off from that tree, blossomed my professional career as a college trained wildlife biologist for various agencies. But natural selection and evolution eventually turned me into a river guide. After several years of exploring rivers on my own, my passion exploded. Opportunity knocked, and I had a unique chance to begin a professional boating career with the legendary Martin Litton, and his highly esteemed Grand Canyon Dories. After five seasons, I again branched out to become a commercial outfitter, where I began running river trips in Oregon and Alaska. Eventually, I moved to Riggins, Idaho, and added the dimension of the Salmon River's big water boating, to our company offerings. Living largely on the river and spending much time in the wilds on solo adventures, helped built my confidence and abilities to live comfortably in the outdoors, no matter the season or conditions. It has been a fulfilling, lifelong engagement with the natural world and exciting dance with the Great Mystery moving through it all. Appreciation for how native people view the world and has greatly influenced my river running style. Learning the language of nature is my most cherished experience and is what I enjoying sharing most, with others, in addition to tons of story making adventure. If you too, would enjoy "counting coup" on nature, with us, and by river, check out our website and offerings. We are a small, personalized company, specializing in "off the beat" trips. My wife and I would love for you to join us and welcome you into the "Wapiti Clan."
